According to the band's website, these early cassettes will eventually be re-released on some format or another in the future. This is great news because after listening to this one, I can confirm that there is some quality "volcanoisms" on here. This early effort proves that the band's sound was fully formed right from the start and, according to me, even stronger than many of their later efforts. The comparisons to Faust and Residents are more obvious as well, but besides the weirdness and imagery, the Volcano bunch have a sound all their own. There is strong use of electronic noises and buzzes throughout the album but they are the driving forces on P.T.O. and Singular Greatness, my two favorite tracks on the album. The cassette is obviously homemade with minimal, xeroxed artwork and is limited to only fifty copies. This one was purchased for under twenty dollars on eBay. |
