Wevie Stonder
Wevie Stonder... Stevie Wonder... You get it? It's so funny! Here's a good example of why you shouldn't rely on a label to choose the albums you buy. I love Skam records. They released incredible work by Boards Of Canada, Gescom and Bola; they just couldn't go wrong. Or so I believed. I saw one of Wevie Stonder's albums in a local Montreal store, the cover looked stupid, the title was lame, but it had the braille Skam "seal-of-approval" os it had to be good electronica right? Wrong. To this day, I still don't get it.
This music is barely interesting, the sense of humor resembling a sub-par Ween. I don't consider myself very difficult with this kind of stuff, heck I think Weird Al is funny at times (and I do like Ween!), but this just doesn't do it for me. I thought maybe it's because I'm just not getting this british humor, but I like Monty Python, Little Britain... I even like Mr. Bean and Benny Hill (and then again, check out Volcano The Bear who are also british and also have bizarre - but darker - sense of humor)! So why doesn't this sound interesting to my ears? Maybe the association with Skam label turned me off. I still don't know. I've listened to them a few times (and not only the one and only album I own, I've heard other records), I've given them enough chances and it's been on my shelf ever since. Why don't I get rid of it you say? Well, I've tried, but nobody seems to want it, so I've kept it as a reminder to be careful the next time I fall in love with a label and try and purchase everything they've put out.
