This album grows on you with each listen. I personally didn't find the opening Seven Nation Army particularly great when I first heard it back when this album came out, but now I can't get enough of it. This is stadium anthem rock at it's most powerful, if we don't hear this on the organ after some spectacular hockey goal during a game in the near future, then I am absolutely clueless. Although I do love this album, it is also a huge turning point in the duo's career, from here on in, their sound would become gradually cleaner and crisper, thankfully, this wasn't done too harshly. There's still a healthy dose of the nitty 'n' gritty on Elephant. Black Math for example sounds remarkably close to the group's trashy breakthrough hit Fell In Love With A Girl while The Hardest Button To Button will have you bob your head and pout with a perfect "cooler-than-thou" attitude. And let's not forget the insane blues monster that is Ball And Biscuit!!! Fuck yeah! |
