Winter
Unrecognized at the time, it took almost a decade for Winter to get the respect they deserve. With the recent "popularity" of doom and drone metal in the underground circuit today spearheaded by group's like Sunn O))) and Boris. People now look back at the artists that served as influence. The granddaddy of them all is of course Black Sabbath, but the doom and the drone came in with the famous Earth 2 album by Earth, this album is single-handedly responsible for Sunn O)))'s career and other drone metal bands. However, even before Earth 2, there was Into Darkness. The drone elements were not as present here as on the Earth record, but the crusty doom/death sound was totally ahead of it's time and it's a shame this band is still quite obscure and not recognized as pioneering work with the genre.
Winter only released one album and an EP which were both conveniently joined together on one single CD later on. I unfortunately do not own this version as my copy was a used copy I found in small record store at a good price.
