No one could have thought Sub Pop would ever release anything by the likes of Wolf Eyes. Their loud and abrasive sound is not consistent with the other bands on the label. There has been a few surprises in the past, like Earth's infamous 2, but this was something very different. Would the band tone down to fit in with what was expected of the label? Hardly! This is probably Wolf Eyes' most aggressive, noisiest, bleakest album yet! It takes forty-five seconds into the first track before the noise starts puking out into your ears, but from then on until the end, you're on your own. The album is pretty unrelenting and it won't give you any breather space. You can almost feel it slithering around your neck and tightening up. Very intense and very good, but that's if you're able to digest the whole Wolf Eyes sound in the first place. It goes without saying... The wolfies are an acquired taste. |
