Slicer is a very fun listen compared to the bleakness found on a lot of Wolf Eyes' other stuff. The intro is an interesting cut-up reading with a palpable build-up in intensity. The more "musical" tracks never get quite as heavy as they do on Dread, preferring a weirder atmosphere to an all-out aural assault. This is not Wolf Eyes trying to slice open your throat (no pun intended), but Wolf Eyes trying to confuse your brain with electrodes and surprise lobotomies. The best track on the album is the fourth track (all of them are untitled). It starts off with a loud abrasive drone which slowly gets interrupted by bleeps and burps until a tribal beat makes it's way to the surface, making everything a bit more coherent towards the end. The next song is along the same lines and the last two tracks are the closest thing to ambient Wolf Eyes have done until now. |
