Wolf Eyes
I've always hated it when people would categorize Wolf Eyes as "industrial" music. Sure they sound like all their equipment was built by the fine people at your local dumpster, with the equipment then taking on a life of it's own, turning against it's creators and mutating into a twenty-feet-tall juggernaut, armed to the teeth, bent on the elimination of mankind... but that doesn't make them "industrial". There is some similarities to Throbbing Gristle, but to me, they weren't "industrial" either.
Wolf Eyes is a fucking all-out assault of noise aimed at your senses with the sole purpose of maximizing the damage... and they do a great job at it, and that's why we love'em. This is engaging noise, and their sound is unmistakable. And for a group that literally releases something every hour or so, they rarely miss the mark... that is if you can actually get your hands on some of their many, many limited releases. They will often be in limited editions of one-hundred, fifty, twenty, twelve, five or why not... one copy!!! So I am the first to tell you it is impossible to get a complete collection of Wolf Eyes stuff... and I'm not even mentioning all the side projects the three members of the band have! But, if you ever do get your hands on something, don't hesitate. Why? Well first of all: most of what they do is really good in a noisy-kick-in-the-teeth sort of way and two: even if you don't like it, the eBay crowd will usually triple your investment if you have one of the limited CD-Rs, tapes and whatnot.
I have to thank emusic.com for making me discover this band. If it weren't for their fifty free mp3 policies, I would probably only have discovered them recently, but a few years back, it was possible to download the Dead Hills EP from them. The first song was good, but it's when the second track (Dead Hills 2) turns ugly that I was tackled violently to the floor. It was so brutal it affected my psyche, like the way you feel after drinking thirty cups of coffee in a row. Thank God the EP is short because I really had to take a wicked whiz after that. It ain't a pretty listen, but shit... that's just the point! Cathartic as fuck! Urge to burn my house down.... fading... faaaaading... faaaaaading.... gone!
