These guys had definitely taken a few lessons from the Wolf Eyes clan and added a few very distorted instruments to make sure we didn't mistake one for the other. The beats throughout the record are quite basic and don't exactly jump at you, but the droning noise, feedback and screeching (are those vocals?) do. Most of the record sounds quite electronic, even when the guitars are heard. And on the last untitled track, something dangerously close to a dance beat makes it's way through the noise to reach your ears. This was definitely not the Yellow Swans I had seen live, it sounded a bit too primitive to these ears: a mish-mash of beeps, feedback, distorted vocals and instruments without much structure or homogeneity... except for the aforementioned beat which can get quite irritating after a while. My brain is torn between my categorizing this as industrial or psychedelic dance noise!!! |
