Once again, I would like to thank Cédric Lerouley for giving me the opportunity to buy a copy of this extremely rare recording by La Monte Young. Of course this is just a bootleg (including crowd noises), but as most of you know by now, it's pretty much the only way you'll be able to hear this work. And for a bootleg, there was quite a lot of effort to make it look quite nice. The double CD-R set was released in an edition of only 50 copies from Japan back in 2007 and this is the same recording (with a nice packaging). The performance was recorded at the Mela Foundation back in 2005. The work was composed for Charles Curtis playing the cello drones over pre-recorded samples of his own playing. The listener should be paying close attention to the microtonal harmonics which surface regularly depending on what chords are being played. Probably one of Young's most accessible works, hopefully it will see an official release one day. |
